Riitta-Liisa Haavisto's artwork "Distant Memories" recently won the "Hand Embroidery Prize 2007 for most outstanding work featuring hand embroidery" (Coats Crafts UK). "Distant Memories" (2006) is included in "Riches of Stitches," an exhibition of 100 contemporary stitched artworks touring the UK this summer. Last year Riitta-Liisa Haavisto was awarded the Anchor Award 2006 for "the most outstanding exhibit" at the international textile biennial Art of the Stitch, in the UK. She has exhibited worldwide and has held 15 exhibitions together with her daughter Anna-Riitta Haavisto, also a professional textile artist. Their most recent joint shows were seen in Oslo, Norway (2005), Seattle, WA, USA (2006) and Helsinki, Finland (2006). Finnish TV showed a 30-minute documentary film in May about the three generations of professional textile artists in the Haavisto (Karttunen) family, including Riitta-Lisa Haavisto (born Karttunen), her aunt Laila Karttunen (1895-1981), and Riitta-Liisa's daughter, Anna-Riitta Haavisto.
