Riitta Jallinoja, Professor Emerita in Sociology at the University of Helsinki, will give a talk on "Strong Finnish Women at the Turn of the Century and their Influence on Finland’s Independence".
Professor Jallinoja is best known for her studies of the role of women, the family and modern life. Her latest book, Families, Status and Dynasties 1600-2000 examines how status is inherited and maintained within families across a number of countries and class groups, such as royalty, the nobility, professions and arts.
