The Finnish Institute

finninst_logo_lon_slThe Finnish Institute in London is a professional organisation which participates each year  in a vast array of  art, science and cultural projects  and helps arrange  or run events in the UK, the Republic of Ireland and Finland. The Institute’s programme also  includes a number of international ventures.

The actual organisers of projects and events are the Institute’s British, Irish and Finnish partners. The Institute primarily acts as a catalyst, disseminating information, and forging contacts between experts from different disciplines. A high level of professionalism hallmarks the work of the Institute's partners.

The Finnish Institute in London began operating in 1991. It functions as a private trust, and is funded mainly by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture.

Art

The Institute’s activities in the artistic sphere are concentrated on contemporary art and popular culture in various genres. The goal of the art projects is to promote professional contacts in Britain and Ireland for Finnish artists and art professionals, and to raise the profile of Finnish art and its export opportunities in the two target countries.

The art programme also includes training events for art professionals, along with consultation on and the dissemination of information about the structures and goals of cultural organisations in the three countries.

Research and Education

The Institute’s research & education programme concentrates on social and topical debates in various academic disciplines in Britain, Ireland and Finland.

A particular focus of attention is opening up new avenues for collaboration and encouraging new forms of partnership, along with extending the Institute’s range of contacts specifically in social research and education. The Institute also provides students, educational institutions and the main institutions in different sectors with information about education, training and research in Finland, Britain and Ireland.
